Adding A GPS Screen to any FSX Aircraft

There comes a time in (pretty much) every flight-simmer's career when they install a really great new aircraft into their software, only to find that it doesn't have a GPS capability. Of course, those of us who enjoy flying older aircraft will know that GPS wasn't around when these particular aircraft were gracing our skies. However, with modern GPS systems being so compact and able to attach to any smooth, flat surface, it doesn't take much to add one into our navigation systems. Luckily, it's almost as easy to attach one to our virtual cockpits in the flying sim world and this post will go through the process and explain what needs to be added in order to facilitate your aircraft with a fully working GPS.

The H&S Design Eurocopter EC135 (Freeware)

Introduction As an ex aircraft engineer who specialised in helicopters with the British Army, I've always retained a fondness for rotary craft. Unfortunately, these aren't very well represented in flight simulators with many of the freeware models I've come across leaving a little something to be desired. Not to be deterred, I've kept a watchful eye out for potentially good models and, a couple of weeks ago, I found the H&S Design EC-135. I wonder if my prayers may just have been answered... EC-135 REGA (Rescue Fit) with additional Hellas, SX-16, FLIR, winch, double controls and GPS tracker attached.

Correcting Fuel Tank Selector Issues in FSX

The Problem I mentioned in my March Blog News Post that I've begun testing on, what looks to be, a very promising freeware EC135 for FSX. At this time, I've not yet managed to complete a decent test flight with it due to an issue with fuel selection, caused by a quirk in the way FSX operates. When I attempted to fly, fuel was only taken from the LeftAux tank (containing only 43 gallons) and, once empty, the EC135's engines would shut down, causing an emergency auto-rotate landing. Following this incident, I spent a reasonable amount of time trying out various start up routines, checking out the aircraft.cfg file and searching forums to see if this was a problem for this particular model. All of this amounted to nothing, with no references made to the EC135 having this problem.
